Description
MPEG is the standards body that brought you MPEG-1 Layer III (MP3), one of the most successful audio standards ever. MP3 is a perceptual coder, which achieves compression gain by shaping the coding noise in the frequency domain in response to a model of the human auditory system. Recent work in MPEG has exploited both this well-known compression technique, and also has also developed two new compression techniques: coding of the spectrum (Spectral Band Replication) and coding of the sound stage (Spatial Audio Coding).
Objective
This course will explain how DSP technology can fully exploit the performance and technical details for three MPEG standards.
