Design Review: A Step-by-Step Approach to AC Line-Powered Converters

Description
An off-line, three-output, 150-Watt forward converter is used as an example to illustrate the design process for typical isolated converters - from EMI to output cross-regulation.

This example will combine the double-ended forward topology with a coupled-inductor to highlight the issues and trade-off decisions required in optimizing the power efficiency and output accuracy, while keeping costs to a minimum. Emphasis will be placed on the basics of the design procedure in a way that will allow ready extrapolation to other applications.
