4.2 Anti-tamper Techniques to Thwart Attacks on Smart Meters— Hardening a meter against magnetic tamper attacks: Transformer Based High-Side Power Supplies

In order to use the AMC1304 for isolated shunt sensing, it is necessary to provide power to the high-side power supply of the AMC1304.  One option for this high-side power supply is to derive this power from the controller side power supply of the AMC1304 using a combination of a transformer driver such as the SN6501, a transformer, and rectification circuitry.  This module covers the advantages and disadvantages of using this transformer-based power supply to power the high-side of the AMC1304.  In addition, details will be provided on the TIDA-00601 and TIDA-01088 reference designs, which use a high-side transformer-based power supply.

This is the second of three modules for the “Hardening a meter against magnetic tamper attacks” section of the “Anti-tamper Techniques to Thwart Attacks on Smart Meters” training series.
