A Deep Dive into Current and Voltage Sensing Architectures for EV and Solar Inverter Systems

Properly designing power stages, optimize delivery efficiency, and maintain a high degree of safety, is key to instilling customer confidence.Current measurement is performed at several points along the power path in a power stage. Each point has a specific set of requirements, and different sensing architectures will lend themselves to each use case. This talk will cover the trade-offs between high side and low side sensing, the application of digitally isolated delta sigma modulators to your signal chain, how to most effectively utilize magnetic sensors such as Flux-Gate and Hall Effect, and even how to optimize the simple shunt resistor.In addition to requirements for higher, more accurate current delivery, there is a growing need for higher voltages. We will explore how to effectively measure these high voltage signals so they can be safely tracked and controlled by the system.
