The Future of Telematics: What Lies Ahead for the Connected Car

September 26, 2017

Today the automotive industry is abuzz with talk of autonomous vehicles and what the future holds for self-driving cars. What the conversation may be overlooking is how this is all “connected” to the vehicle’s infotainment system, one of the fastest growing automotive sectors. The answer is connectivity, mostly wireless, and lots of it. A vehicle’s telematics system is the central hub for nearly anything and everything that “talks” wirelessly to the car. As more and more vehicle systems integrate wireless technology, telematics will continue to grow, with an expected 16 percent CAGR between 2016 and 2024. This presentation will discuss the future of telematics, the trends the market is seeing – and expects to see, typical subsystems, and how TI can address them from both a product and system standpoint. With telematics implementing new technologies that have never existed before in the automotive sector, this presentation will address the new opportunities for semiconductor components to be designed into vehicles.
