The EVs/HEVs market has been grown very fast in recent years and the high functional safety level becomes the key design target for the traction inverter. To address such challenge and provide a highly integrated solution, TI has released first functional safety compliant gate driver UCC5870-Q1 with various integrated diagnosis and monitoring features as well as SPI programmable capability for the traction inverter application. Due to the driver’s complexity and many advanced functions, it is not very straight forward for engineers to use this gate driver similarly as a typical simple driver. This session will go through the steps on how to program the UCC5870-Q1 gate driver which includes: introduction of the driver operation mode, different SPI mode and how to set up the driver address, the writing and reading registers method, ADC configuration and reading etc. Demonstration of programming a half bridge board with a GUI program and programming a three-phase board with C2000 DSP program will also be giving in this session.
