4.4 High Voltage Contactor Control

Description

August 21, 2020

2020 Automotive TI Tech Day session

The industry uses the terms ‘High-voltage relay’ and ‘high-voltage contactor’ interchangeably and often without distinction for EV/HEV switches. In general, both terms designate an electromechanical switching device, working on the same physical principle, where a coil is used to generate a magnetic force that mechanically operates an electric contact.  This session aims to review the basic operating principles of various contactors on the market today, and finally describes the various solutions that Texas Instruments has available to meet these various requirements.
