The LCD functionality of many (sub-)metering devices does not have to be always on, then for the majority of the time, no one reads the display. This is common for Heat Cost Allocators, Water and Heat Meters, where quite often the LCD functionality gets disabled to save power. TIDA-00848 describes a TI patent-pending solution for adding 7-Segment LCD functionality to any TI MCU without on-chip LCD controller. Simple external resistive network and dedicated software drive a 4-MUX segment LCD display with CC1310 or CC1350 device.
