Introduction of DLP 3D scanning
[MUSIC PLAYING] This presentation, I will give you introduction for DLP 3D scanning and DLP 3D SDK; second one, advanced features for the existing DLP 3D SDK; the third one, how to optimize the scanning performance by using DLP technology; the last one, why DLP is a good solution for 3D machine vision in industrial application. OK, my name is Frank Liu. I am from DLP FSE team, Taiwan region. And I work for DLP projector more than 15 years. And from three years ago, I start to support non-display application, which is industrial applications. The right side, actually, is an event. We try to educate the elementary school student how DLP 3D scanning works. So we can see the children try to [? treat ?] their classmate. So the 3D scanning result, we can see very funny 3D scanning model. OK, for first topic, we'll talk about DLP 3D scanning introduction. We know DLP is a MEMS device, so there's a [? mini ?] mirror in each device. And each mirror can reflect any wavelengths, so from UVE to near-IR range, there's no problem. And also, we can see that DLP is light module. It can steer light to on or off, which is two states. And also, DLP DMD mirror can reflect the light, no matter if it's from the lamp, or white light angle [? priority, ?] or narrow light angle from laser, or polarized light source, like laser. And also, DLP can run with very high speed current rate, the [INAUDIBLE], the fast state DMD is 32k hertz pattern rate. So probably you don't know what means a 32k hertz. We can see in regular TV, 60 hertz is the normal frame rate. 120 hertz is already very fast. But by our DLP DMD, we can run with 32k hertz pattern rate, which we can change 32k patterns in one second. And also we can support different wavelengths. And also we are programmable pattern generator. So for non-display area we focus on four fast-growing areas. First one is the 3D sensing, also the 3D machine vision for factory automation, and also for some metrology. And second one, we talk about-- second one is spectral sensing. So we can tell the component in the material. And the third one is the lithography, [INAUDIBLE] lithography. Actually, DLP technology is major technology for this area. The last one is 3D printing. Here we can provide very fast, high resolution and low cost 3D printer. OK, let's talk about DLP technology on the 3D sensing. So we say DLP can use structured light to do the 3D scanning. So structured light means DLP is a pattern generator to project the structured light pattern. So for this one, DLP projects the stripe, the line stripe, which are on the 3D model, 3D object. We can see the stripe with little distortion, when camera captures the pattern and uses triangulation calculation. So we can get the coordinates of each point. So why use DLP technology? First one, DLP is a MEMS device. So it's very reliable and precise pattern generator. And it's very important for 3D sensing. Later we will talk many, many times about this point. And also, we are very fast. DLP technology is very fast. So we can do the real-time scanning. And also we can do the external trigger or internal trigger. So it means we can synchronize the projector, synchronize it with a camera. So we can project very, very high accurate energy. And also we can provide high bit-depth, which means we can provide a gray level with very accurate energy. And different wavelengths, and also we can build very small form size. So the form factor is very important for some industrial [? level ?] because you can build small module to enable the existing machine to have the 3D capability. And also we have a very strong DLP ecosystem. We can help build a up your engine and light source. OK, this page we'll talk about what's marketing opportunities. We can't see the first one is factory automation. So it's very easy to use 3D [INAUDIBLE] to measure the solder paste on the PCB. And also we can do the 3D scanner, like this one in the [INAUDIBLE] scanner and also for robotic [INAUDIBLE]. And for prosumer 3D scanner, you can see you need the 3D scanner for [INAUDIBLE] 3D. And 3D camera will do the facial ID or some gaming application. OK, so we know TI is a ASIC solution provider. So DLP will only build a ASIC and the DMD. So we have optical energy maker that can build the optical module for the projector or the pattern generator. We have a system integrator to build a system for you. So they can build a [INAUDIBLE] for you. But for [INAUDIBLE] scanning we still miss one thing, which is [INAUDIBLE]. So for this part, that's why DLP TI build TI design for 3D scanning. So let's talk about a 3D scanning SDK.
