EMI is a critical design targets for the power supply designers to meet the agency requirements. The EMI problems normally happen later in the debugging process and it could be difficult and time consuming. It is important to keep the EMI problem in mind in the design stage to simplify the debugging process. In this session, the basic concepts of EMI and EMC are introduced. Based on the typical EMI standards, the EMI noise measurement setup, EMI noise sources, and EMI noise mitigation methods are introduced. Through the presentation, the power supply designers should be able to understand the basic concept of EMI noise and the solutions, how to measure the EMI, how to separate the differential mode and common mode noise, layout best practice to avoid EMI problem, as well as the basic EMI filter design method.
