In this lecture, we will learn:
  • Linear regulators can provide stable and low-noise output voltages.
  • Modern linear regulators have low “dropout” voltage, hence “LDO”.
  • Linear regulation is inefficient, which also impacts thermal management and cost.
  • LDOs need carefully selected output capacitors to be stable.
