Send a two-tone signal from the AFE77xx TX
In this video, I'll show you how to program the AFE77XX EVM and send a two-tone signal from the transmitter. If you have yet to set up the hardware, please watch the previous video in this series titled "Setting up the AFE77XX EVM Hardware." Now let's get started. We will start by generating the dual-tone signal. Open HSDC Pro. Select OK when prompted to connect to the TSW14J56 EVM. Press OK for the pop-up window. Click on the DAC tab. Click on the green arrow to the right of Select DAC and choose the INI file titled AFE77XX_TX_USECASE1. When prompted to update the firmware, click yes. Under Data rate, enter 491.52 mega samples per second and press Enter. In the IQ multi-tone generator section, enter 10 megahertz for tone bandwidth, two for number of tones, and 30 meg for tone center. Enter 8,192 for number of samples. For tone selection, choose complex. And then press Create tones. Before pressing send, change the scaling factor from 1 to 0.52 and press Enter. Now press Send. You should see a pop-up window displaying the JESD lane rate, given selected the INI file settings and desired data rate. Click OK. Now it's time to program the AFE77XX EVM. We will program in a mode that we refer to as USECASE1. In USECASE1, the sampling frequency of the DACs is 2,949.12 mega samples per second. The interpolation factor is six. That gives an input data rate of 491.52 mega samples per second. The yellow frequency is at 3.5 gigahertz. Press the AFE reset button on the EVM located at SW1. Run the TI-Latte GUI. Once the GUI opens, you'll notice a window on the left side of the GUI with the panel titled Scripts. Under Scripts, click on SETUP.PY. Once selected, run the script by clicking Buffer located in the Run menu. The execution time for the script should take about five seconds. Next, run the script titled DEVINIT.PY. Wait for about 30 seconds for the script to finish running. Finally, run the script titled BASICBRINGUP_CASE-1.PY This will take a few minutes. After programming is complete, go back to HSBC Pro and click Send button. You should see the transmitted tones centered at 3.5 gigahertz spaced 10 megahertz apart. The unadjusted sideband suppression should measure to be at or lower than minus 45 dBc. The uncorrected LO leakage should be minus 55 dBFS. Tune in to the next video where I show you how to correct the AFE77XX TX quadrature mismatch and LO leakage.
