Not All DC/DC Regulators Are Created Equal

March 8, 2016

Power Engineers constantly find themselves making selections among linear regulators, switching regulators and how much integration they need in their systems. However, with the state of the art process technologies, newer packaging techniques and online tools from Texas Instruments, the power designer now has greater flexibility when deciding on the best power solution. This presentation covers the pros and cons between Non-Synchronous and Synchronous switching regulators and the pros and cons between LDOs and the new family of DC/DC Nano Modules. It will also explore and provide application examples of the common system needs such as solution size, generated noise, efficiency, output capacitor bank selection, and how to select among the available power solutions.
