The TI portfolio now contains many different types of control architectures for non-isolated TPS and LM switching DC/DC converters and controllers. Each control scheme is implemented to solve a particular power supply problem, and is met with certain trade-offs. This presentation will illustrate and survey each control mode’s operation and switching characteristics, and address the advantages and limitations in certain applications and the impact on other power supply characteristics, such as transient response, light load efficiency and current limiting, when applicable. The control modes featured are voltage mode, voltage mode  with feed-forward, current mode types, DCAP varieties, emulated current mode, hysteretic, constant off-time, and DCS.
