Smart High Side Switches to Drive Capacitive Loads

High side switches are used automotive applications to control, diagnose and protect various loads. The type of the loads – as well as the requirements on the load drive, current measurement, overload protection and thermal system design vary widely. In this presentation, we will explain the capacitive loads and the performance specifications and protection features. . High side switches are available today from TI with industry leading performance and protection functionality. The devices have a range of current sensing/limiting modes and protection methods to support the needs of each application. Appropriate high-side switch feature choice and thermal system design to support the following cases will be discussed in detail:  charge large capacitance banks, transients. Specifically, the use of current limiting/regulation mode to drive capacitive loads at lower total system cost will be discussed.
