5.3 Spectroscopy and 3D Scanning using TI DLP® Technology

DLP Technology can be used in many applications outside of projection. Here we cover two: 3D scanning and spectroscopy. By using the high speed digital micromirror device (DMD) and structured light, DLP technology can be used as a high accuracy 3D scanner in applications ranging from dent detection, optical inspection on assembly lines for quality control and 3D model generation. Another sensor type application utilizing DLP technology is spectroscopy. By using the DMD to optically select wavelengths of interest, a spectrum can be generated which can inform users on the composition of the material being scanned. Applications range from petrochemical quality measurements to food safety.
