4.1 Anti-tamper Techniques to Thwart Attacks on Smart Meters— Hardening a meter against magnetic tamper attacks: Isolated Shunt Sensing Building Blocks
One method to deal with magnetic tampering is to try to harden the system against magnetic tamper attacks using shunt current sensors. For single-phase systems, this is easy to do. However, for poly-phase systems, it is necessary to isolate the shunts. This training module provides details on how isolated shunt current sensing could be implemented using an AMC1304 isolated delta sigma modulator and a MSP430F67641 metrology microcontroller. Details will be provided on the associated voltage and current front end circuitry used to translate Mains voltage and current to a voltage range acceptable for the MSP430F67641 and AMC1304.
This module is the first of three modules for the “Hardening a meter against magnetic tamper attacks” section of the “Anti-tamper Techniques to Thwart Attacks on Smart Meters” training series.
