1.5 Precisely measuring current in 48 V vehicles

You must have noticed the rapidly expanding vehicle systems that run on a 48V battery. Monitoring the current on a 48V rail presents a new set of challenges over the traditional automotive 12V power rail. In this session we will address the tradeoffs you need to make to precisely and at the same time economically overcome these challenges. We will first go through different shunt-based current sensing solutions across TI, with real-world total error calculation and simulation examples taking into account system level Vos, Gain Error, CMRR, PSRR etc. and associated cost ramifications, to help you better understand the pros and cons of each solution. Then we will use a few of TI’s latest 110V Current Sense Amplifiers as examples to show how they solve these 48V current sensing problems in BMS, DC/DC, and various Motor Drives applications.
